I've decided to embrace who I am as a person and a dad and re-subbed to World of Warcraft again. Quitting smoking was easier.

Thanks for sharing Mateo. Infinite Midwit - this made me think what LLM’s remind me of - visiting music stores growing up. The store clerk would be an arrogant dude who knew every technical thing about the guitar and could play every song but couldn’t write a song. You’d never want him in your band. All tech no heart or subjective creativity.

Mateo thanks for sharing such an interesting email. A book I am recommending to everyone is Revolusi Indonesia and the Birth of the Modern World by David Van Reybrouck. It also has a shipwreck themed metaphor to help explain the changes in Indonesian society as it moved from Dutch colonialism, Japanese Occupation, Independence war against the Dutch and independence. A country so close to Australia and one so important to our future and one that most of us, me included, know so little about. Fascinating for the story it tells and also a delight to read.

A TV show that has me hooked is Un Village Francaise. A French TV show of 7 seasons it tells the story of a fictional village during WWII. What happens when the Germans arrive, how do people survive an occupation, what decisions do you make to keep living a reasonable life in unreasonable times. It gets beyond the easy stereotypes of collaborator/resistance fighter and makes you think how you would respond and try to keep your family safe.

The only problem is it does not seem to be available to stream but can be watched in the delightfully old fashioned way of borrowing DVD box sets from my local library. Does require that you can still connect a DVD player to your TV. Local libraries are a wonderful thing!

Kieran – I got Revolusi as a Christmas present a couple of years ago! Very excited to finally get around to it. Thanks for sharing your recommendations!
